What Is Lumecca IPL?

If your skin has dark spots or other visible signs of sun damage, you may benefit from intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy at WishLane Aesthetics. This state-of-the-art skin rejuvenation treatment is often recommended for adults wanting to correct hyperpigmentation issues around the face, neck, hands, or elsewhere on the body. Sometimes referred to as a photofacial, IPL therapy is a nonsurgical procedure that is capable of producing amazing outcomes. Using the sophisticated Lumecca system, nurse practitioners Betsy Wischer and Shannon Arendt send powerful pulses of light to warm the skin cells just enough to trigger the body's natural healing process and increase the production of collagen. In time, you should begin to see a healthier complexion with a more even tone and fewer dark spots. Contact our office in Neenah, WI to learn more about IPL therapy and to schedule your skin care consultation with our friendly providers.

How Does IPL Therapy Work?

Before your IPL therapy at WishLane Aesthetics, your technician will wash and dry your skin before giving you goggles to protect your eyes. The Lumecca handpiece will then be passed over your skin, emitting pulses of light to warm the treatment area and boost collagen growth. Thanks to Lumecca's sapphire tip, you should not feel significant discomfort during the process. After your treatment, your skin will have a mild red appearance and may be sensitive for a day or two. You can apply makeup immediately after your procedure if you want, but we advise that you avoid sun exposure for 30 days after your last treatment and use sunscreen every day to protect your skin. With Lumecca, most clients only need 1 – 2 treatments to get lasting results.

IPL treatments work through a process called photothermolysis, which means they target specific wavelengths of light that are responsible for producing discoloration in the skin. These pigments absorb the light and are quickly destroyed, reducing the appearance of hyperpigmented spots.

Recently I went through my second round of Lumecca treatment on my face and chest to remove age spots, sun damage, and spider veins and the results are AMAZING!!! I can NOT say enough positive things about this treatment and Shannon (super professional AND down to earth). Lumecca is a game changer and totally worth the investment in yourself.

How fast will I see results from IPL?

Some results can be seen following one session, but optimal results develop a month after all of your treatments are done. It’s common for you to respond differently to each treatment session. You will see a gradual improvement of redness, blotchiness, age spots, and sun spots over time.

How should I prepare for an IPL session?

To prepare for an IPL treatment, clients are asked to skip self-tanners and excessive sun for about 2 – 4 weeks before their treatment. You should also stop using minocycline, tetracycline, doxycycline, or Retin-A/Renova a few days before each procedure, and we may recommend taking aspirin or ibuprofen for a week before your treatment in Neenah, WI to help prevent bruising. You should also use sunscreen between sessions.

Why should I get multiple IPL sessions?

A complete series of IPL photofacials are recommended to gradually improve your complexion's appearance. Each session helps to diminish age or sun spots and other surface irregularities. Multiple treatments also produce longer-lasting improvements.
